Factors That Make Good Airsoft Airsoft Guns

Airsoft Sniper Rifles No Comments »

One of the most popular positions that people play in airsoft is the sniper.  People have been fascinated with the idea of one man taking on the masses of faceless enemy infantry and coming out on top by taking each one down while reciting the classic sniper creed: “One shot, one kill.”  And that is why many people have taken to using normal airsoft guns as sniper rifles.  However, using something for something for which it isn’t designed for doesn’t change what it truly is.  A sniper airsoft player needs a sniper airsoft gun.  So what makes a good airsoft sniper rifle?

Starting with the basics, a good airsoft sniper rifle is accurate.  In general it will have a longer, higher quality barrel to ensure that the round flies where it was aimed.  An airsoft sniper rifle will consistently shoot at the same, or very close to the same, velocity.  This allows the experienced sniper to correct for any deviation after observing the first shot.  A purpose built sniper rifle should incorporate these traits.  In addition to these traits of the gun, it should also have an after market scope mounted on it that the user is comfortable with.  This will allow accurate, well-aimed shots to be made again and again.

Next, an airsoft sniper rifle should be easy to use, and therefore simplicity.  Although this depends on the user, ease of use is generally important because it allows the sniper to concentrate on more important tasks such as putting rounds on the target accurately and quickly.  This could also mean that the sniper rifle is lightweight and portable, allowing for easier movement.  Simplicity is important because it takes out many of the variables that could go wrong, cause a shot to miss, or even worse, cause the weapon to malfunction at a critical time.  Whenever the gun is not in shooting condition, the sniper is in very big trouble.

Although many other factors can help to make a good sniper rifle, accuracy and simplicity are without a doubt the two most important factors found in good sniper rifles.  A few others may include extras such as integrated camouflage or attachment points for accessories such as bipods, lasers, or other extra items.  But when it all comes down to it, these are all up to the sniper’s preferences.  Some people prefer lots of extras on their guns, others like the bare minimum.  By experimenting with your weapons, you can decide what additional factors are important to you, and then have your rifle customized to those preferences.

5 Things to Know When Buying Airsoft Sniper Rifles

Airsoft Sniper Rifles No Comments »

Choosing your first airsoft sniper rifle can be a little challenging, especially if you don’t have a clue what to look for when choosing the perfect rifle.  Before buying an airsoft rifle, you should first ask yourself if you really want to be an airsoft sniper.  This position is one that requires plenty of skill and practice, along with a deep reservoir of patience; not everyone is cut out to be an airsoft sniper.  Once you have given it a little thought and decided that the airsoft sniper is the right position for you, you need to pick out a gun before you get started.  This article will help you know what to look for when buying an airsoft sniper rifle.

1. Firing System

The first thing you should take into consideration when purchasing an airsoft sniper rifle is what firing system it uses.  This is important because there are three different types of firing systems commonly used by airsoft guns.  The first is the spring powered system.  This system is commonly used in sniper rifles because it reliably delivers both a fast muzzle velocity and a manner of stealth due to its quiet operation.  On the down side, this system requires that the sniper re-cock the weapon to engage the spring before firing every round, resulting in a low rate of fire.  Another system commonly used is powered by some type of compressed gas.  Gas powered sniper rifles often deliver very high muzzle velocities in the area of 400-500fps and have a higher rate of fire when compared to spring powered systems, but sacrifice the quiet that spring rifles are blessed with.  They also require the sniper to carry some form of gas propellant such as CO2 cartridges which need to be replaced after a certain number of shots; this reliance on gas pressure to fire also results in a decreased shot consistency.  The last commonly used system is the electric powered system.  Electric powered systems have the advantage of a very high rate of fire because the reloading and firing process is automatically done by the firing mechanism and can often be used in roles similar to assault rifles.  The downside to electric powered rifles is that they are not as quiet as spring powered weapons and they generally cost more in order to achieve muzzle velocities similar to other systems.  Each airsoft sniper has to way the pros and cons and decide based off of that conclusion.

2. Muzzle Velocity

Muzzle velocity is very important in airsoft sniper rifles because it often results in an increased accuracy and shorter flight time to the target.  An airsoft rifle that is intended to be used as a sniper rifle should fire at a minimum of 350 feet per second, and higher muzzle velocities will offer more advantages.  The best muzzle velocities are usually found in spring or gas powered systems, but electronic systems are capable of producing comparable speeds.  It is often necessary to upgrade spring powered rifles with better springs in order to get the full benefit of a high muzzle velocity.

3. Portability

Portability should be considered when buying a sniper rifle for a few different reasons.  The most important of these is that a highly portable rifle will allow the airsoft sniper to quickly and covertly move to a secure firing position.  Another advantage that portable rifles have is that they generally weigh less and are easier to handle than bulkier sniper rifles.  This decrease in weight and advanced handling allow the sniper to track and neutralize targets quicker than with other weapon systems and also gives an added measure of security when it comes to self-defense.

4. Magazine Capacity

Although magazine capacity can be supplemented by carrying extra ammo or magazines, no one can deny that it is advantageous to have a few extra shots in the magazine.  Five or ten shots won’t seem like much on the target range, or even when firing from a secure position, but when compromised on the battlefield and under attack, those few extra rounds in the magazine can make the difference between going down in a hail of plastic pellets and carrying the day.  A magazine size of 20 shots will suffice, although 30 or more is preferred.

5. Accessory Capable

When purchasing an airsoft sniper rifle it is very important to consider things such as sight rails and accessory rails.  No sniper rifle is complete without a scope, and attachments such as laser sights or bipods can make a world of difference.  You should check to make sure that any rifle you consider purchasing has a sight rail or, at the bare minimum, a place where a sight rail can be attached.  That piece of hardware is one of the most important items to look for on a weapon, so make sure that it is high quality.

The Ideal Rifle

The ideal sniper rifle is lightweight and portable, has a reliable firing system that fits your needs, a respectable muzzle velocity and magazine capacity, and has plenty of room to expand and customize.  You should consider all of these things when buying your airsoft sniper rifle; without these, your weapon is just a normal airsoft rifle.  You can find more information on airsoft sniping at www.airsocom.com, as well as a few top of the line sniper rifles and accessories, such as ghillie suits.
